Some important storage devices

HDD (Hard disk drive ) :
It is the most important storage device. It is made of metal coated with metallic oxide. It is available in different size in the market. for example 20 gb, 40gb, 80 gb etc. All necessary files in the computer system are saved in the Hard disk. It is also called c: drive or d: drive. It shows the capacity of any PC.

FDD (Floppy disk )
It is another storage device which has got less capacity to store the data than the HDD. It is made of plastic having 1.44 Mb of storage capacity. It is mostly used to transfer any data from one pc to another pc. It is also called a: drive. Sometimes it is used to boot the computer system.

Pen drive :
It looks like a pen. It's storage capacity is up to 20 GB now a days. It is easily to handle and transfer the data. It need USB port to plug in into the system.

Zip drive :
It is just like FD but it is bigger than it. It has got capacity to store 200-250 mb of data. It is mostly used in Publication, press etc.

CD ROM/DVD ROM :
It mostly used to copy any files from the system. It is also used to store any programs and data to the system. It's storage capacity is 700 mb but in DVD ROM its capacity is 4 Gb or more than that.

Networking Concept

Networking means to transfer any data and information from one place to another by the help of specific device such as wires, cable, Lan card, waves, satellites, microwaves etc. There are three types of Networking system they are :

LAN (Local Area Network )
That kind of networking which is established in certain places such as room, building etc with the help of wires and Lan card is called LAN. It is also called small area network because it can flow the data in very slow speed.

WAN (Wide Area Network )
That kind of networking which used micro wave, satellites to transfer any data and information is called WAN. It covers whole world now a days. It is very fast in transferring of any data than LAN network. More than 140 countries having more than 4 cores computer have got this types of Networking system.

MAN (Metropolitan Area Network )

That kind of network which is bigger than LAN but smaller than WAN is called MAN. It covers the distance with in 100km. for example networking between NRB and its branch banks.

Input Device and Out Device

Input Device helps to store any data and information to the system. Some example of input device are Keyboard, Mouse, Microphone etc.

Output device helps to give output result from the system. Some example of output devices are Monitor, Speaker, Printer etc

Hardware and Software

The things which we can touch, feel is called hardware. For example monitor, CPU, keyboard, Printer etc. It is the physical parts of the computer system.

The things which we cannot touch, feel is called software. It just like soul of the body without which computer cannot work easily. It gives life to the computer. Example of software are application software, Ms-Dos, Ms-Windows etc.

Generaation of computer

  • As human beings, Computers also have got their generation according to their working capabilities and other components devices. They are as follows:

First generation of Computer – used Vacuum tubes as main component.
Second generation of computer – used transistor as main component
Third Generation of computer – used IC as main component
Fourth generation of computer – used Microprocessor, VLSI as main component Fifth generation of computer – used Parallel processor as main component

Introduction

Computer is an artificial electronic device create by the man to work easier and faster. It accepts the data and information around our environment and process them to give output result, which is useful to the user. It is the most powerful and advanced device till date.

It comes from Latin word "Computare" which means to calculate. That’s why we can say that it is a calculation device too. It is being used in every step now a days, such as in School, Universities, Business house, firm, industries, offices etc.
